Geekvape Z tank, which one to choose as a beginner

You have seen "Geekvape Z tank" on a kit listing or a shop shelf, and you are not sure whether it means a mod, a coil or a tank? The confusion makes sense. Behind that single letter, Geekvape groups several tanks, two coil families and older models still sold under the Zeus name. Picking the wrong one means buying a tank that does not suit the way you vape.
Geekvape Z tank, what the name covers for a first purchase
The Geekvape Z tank range covers Geekvape's sub-ohm and compact tanks, meaning refillable tanks with a replaceable coil that screw onto a mod. The Z is the successor to the Zeus, and many retailers still use both names for the same product.
In October 2026, the manufacturer's website highlights three models.
- The Z Nano 3, compact, which takes B Series coils.
- The Z Subohm Tank 5, built for dense vapour, which takes Z Series coils.
- The Z Fli 2, from the same family as the Z Subohm, recognisable by its flip-up cap for filling.
For a first setup, the Z Nano 3 is the only one of the three that takes coils designed for a tight draw. The other two are aimed at vapers already comfortable with direct lung vaping.
Tight draw or direct lung, the first question to ask
Before reading any spec sheet, decide how you want to inhale. That choice sets the coil, which sets the tank, which in turn sets the mod you need.
Mouth to lung, or MTL
Mouth to lung, or MTL, means holding the vapour in your mouth before inhaling it. Little air passes through, the vapour stays discreet and the power stays low, around 8 to 16 W with the matching coils.
Direct lung, or DL
Direct lung, or DL, sends the vapour straight to the lungs. Air flows freely, power climbs to several tens of watts and the vapour is far denser. It calls for a sub-ohm coil and a low-nicotine e-liquid.
B and Z coils, what separates the two series
A coil is the part that heats the e-liquid soaked into the cotton. Geekvape offers two families that do not swap between tanks, a point that often causes confusion on listings.
| Series | Values | Rated power | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| B (MTL) | 1.2 ohm and 0.8 ohm | 8 to 12 W and 12 to 16 W | tight draw |
| B (MTL or Boost) | 0.6 ohm | 15 to 25 W | restricted lung |
| B (Boost) | 0.4 ohm to 0.15 ohm | 25 to 75 W depending on value | direct lung |
| Z (XM Boost) | 0.4, 0.2 and 0.15 ohm | 50 to 85 W depending on value | direct lung |
B coils fit the Z Nano 3, as well as several of the brand's pod cartridges. Z coils are reserved for sub-ohm tanks such as the Z Subohm Tank 5 and the Z Fli 2.
Z Nano 3, the most approachable Geekvape Z tank
The Z Nano 3 measures 28 mm wide and 57.25 mm tall according to Geekvape's official store. It fills from the top by pushing a cap that stays attached, and its airflow is set at the top, a layout meant to limit leaks.
The box holds a pre-installed 0.2 ohm B coil (50 to 58 W) and a spare 0.4 ohm B coil (25 to 35 W). Both values point straight towards direct lung vaping. For a tight draw, you need to buy a 0.8 or 1.2 ohm B MTL coil separately.
Its drip tip uses the narrower 510 fitting, and a wider spare drip tip is supplied. The Z Nano 3 screws onto any mod with a 510 connector, provided the mod covers the power the chosen coil needs.
Z Subohm Tank 5 and Z Fli 2, for direct lung only
These two Geekvape Z tank models are for vapers who have already settled on direct lung. Their coils start at 50 W, which calls for a mod able to deliver that power steadily.
The Z Subohm Tank 5 measures 29 mm wide and 56.1 mm tall. It ships with a Z0.2 XM coil (70 to 80 W) installed and a spare Z0.4 XM (50 to 60 W). Its drip tip uses the wider 810 fitting, and Geekvape states that XM coils can last up to 60 ml of e-liquid.
The Z Fli 2 also takes Z Series coils, with a Z0.15 XM rated at 70 to 85 W pre-installed. Its flip cap, which the manufacturer says was tested over more than 3,000 openings, makes one-handed filling simpler.
The UK 2 ml limit, worth checking before you buy
Listings often quote 5 or 5.5 ml. UK rules restrict e-cigarette tanks to 2 ml, nicotine e-liquid refill bottles to 10 ml and nicotine strength to 20 mg/ml. Geekvape lists a 2 ml TPD version of the Z Nano 3 and a 2 ml glass for the Z Fli 2.
For a beginner, the consequence is simple. Check which edition a listing describes, and expect to refill more often with a 2 ml tank.
Which e-liquid with a Geekvape Z tank coil
Geekvape pairs each coil value with a type of e-liquid. According to the manufacturer, 0.2 and 0.3 ohm B coils suit a freebase e-liquid at 3 mg/ml or less, while the 0.8 and 1.2 ohm coils take nicotine salts and higher strengths.
In the UK, any nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20 mg/ml. Direct lung vaping on a very low-resistance coil generally goes with a low-strength liquid that is richer in vegetable glycerine, and therefore thicker.
The right strength is a choice for each adult vaper, and our Kiwi Vapor guide walks through that reasoning on a tight-draw pod.
Habits that help a coil last
A new coil burns easily if you rush it. Geekvape recommends waiting 3 to 5 minutes after filling, so the cotton can soak through, before the first puff.
Two other mistakes come up often. Setting the power above the coil's rated range wears the cotton faster, and a very high-VG liquid generally gums up the coil sooner. The manufacturer puts coil life at 50 to 60 ml for a B Boost coil and 20 to 30 ml for a B MTL coil.
FAQ
These questions come up often among people discovering the brand's tanks, beyond the choice of model.
Are the Zeus and the Z the same tank? The Z is the current name of the Zeus line. Retailers use both names, and older Zeus Sub-Ohm or Zeus Nano 2 tanks are still sold alongside the newer models.
Can a Z coil go in a Z Nano 3? No. The Z Nano 3 runs on the B Series, and Z coils are reserved for sub-ohm tanks such as the Z Subohm Tank 5 or the Z Fli 2.
How do you prime a new coil? Geekvape describes two methods. Drip a few drops of e-liquid onto the exposed cotton before fitting the coil, or take a few gentle draws with the mod switched off to pull the liquid through.
When should a coil be replaced? As soon as a burnt taste appears, the flavour fades or you switch to a very different flavour.
Will a Z tank fit any mod? It screws onto any mod with a 510 connector, but the power has to match. The Innokin Gozee, rated up to 60 W on its spec sheet, suits the Z Nano 3 but not a Z0.2 XM coil rated at 70 to 80 W.
Geekvape Z tank, start from the draw to choose
The right tank in this range is chosen from the draw you want, not from the newest model. The Z Nano 3, fitted with a B MTL coil, remains the entry point for a tight draw, while the Z Subohm Tank 5 and the Z Fli 2 are built for direct lung.
Before buying, two checks are enough, the 2 ml TPD edition and the compatible coil series. The Geekvape Z tank range shows the value of modular hardware, which lets a newcomer learn vaping one part at a time.
